Removal of hard deposits
Flex hubs are special scraper tools that have been developed to remove hard deposits in tubes. By means of centrifugal forces, the 3 blades automatically adjust to the internal tube diameter. With 4 different flex hubs it is possible to clean tubes from 13 to 102 millimeters (inner diameter)!
Applications within the industry
Goodway flex hub scrapers can be used for almost any tube cleaning application. Below is a brief summary of the most common applications:
- Firetubes of a boiler system
- Process heat-exchangers (often found within the petrochemical/process industry).
- Tubular evaporators in (among others) the dairy industry
- Flue Gas Cooler tubes
- It is also possible to open up blocked tubes!
Cleaning procedure with Flex Hubs
Flex hub scrapers are powered by a Goodway rotary tube cleaning system and (dry or wet) flexible shafts. Depending on the type, these tube cleaning machines can rotate a flexible shaft between 500 and 3000 rpm. Due to these high speeds, the blades create a lot of friction in the tube. This mechanical action ensures that the deposits can be loosened quickly and effectively.
Each flex hub scraper has its own range of internal tube diameters. If your tube diameter is located within this range, you can use the flex hub. Note that the blades are made of carbon steel. So it is not advised to use these types of scrapers for softer base metals such as copper-nickel or titanium.
2-pass cleaning (advised!)
With heavily deposited tubes, it is recommended to work with a 2-pass cleaning process. It is easy to perform and almost always leads to an even better cleaning result. The cleaning process is divided into 2 steps:
- Use the flex hub scraper to remove the initial, heavy layer of deposits from the tubes. After cleaning with these scrapers, it is possible that a small amount of deposit remains inside of the tubes.
- After that, use an oversized nylon-type NAB brush to remove the last remaining layer of deposits. These oversized brushes generate even more friction in the tubes, creating a polishing effect. After the NAB brushes, the tubes are as clean as possible and the heat transfer will be at optimal levels.
